Keyser Island
HISTORY
Keyser Island
Keyser Island was named in 1868 by Commander H. M. Bingham, RN, in
HMS Virago after Lieutenant Francis M. Keyser on board Virago (Navy
lists Virago; Bingham's charts). On 23 February 1920 an occupation
licence OL443 was granted over the island to Aubrey R. Jurd but nothing more is
known (Lands Department records). The island was declared a national park in
1938.
