Dead Dog Island

HISTORY

Dead Dog Island (Thomas Island)
This rather macabre name for the small island on the eastern side of Thomas Island first appears in the survey charts of Lieutenant Commander H. T. Bennett, RAN, during his 1925 surveys in HMAS Geranium. The reason for name is not known though it seems possible the survey party may have found a dead dog on the island.

The Information on the Whitsunday Islands is reproduced by kind permission of Mr. Ray Blackwood from his book: " The Whitsunday Islands An Historical Dictionary ".
