Champion's Island
HISTORY
Champion's Island
Champion's Island was a local name during the 1860s for Flat Top Island at
the entrance to the Pioneer River. Champion was a well known master of the
Australian Steam Navigation Company, commanding over the years the Diamantina,
Kennedy, Tinonee and Williams which worked Queensland ports in those
days. It is unlikely Champion had any formal tenure over the island but at one
stage ran stock there.
