Welcome to Montes Resort
Montes Resort takes its name from its original owner, Montes Overend Gorton, who established the resort in 1972.
Access to the resort was then available only by sea. Visitors from fishing trawlers, yachts and other recreation boats enjoyed the peaceful environment and sociable atmosphere of the small resort.
Monte also operated a limited motor launch service to transport guests from Bowen across Edgecumbe Bay to the Resort.
In 1981 the resort was purchased from Monte by the Cottam Family, who own cattle property in the local area south of Bowen. The Cottam family retains ownership of the resort today. Monte continued to live at Cape Gloucester, close to the resort until his death in 1989.
By 1989 guest were being transported via privately owned road from Hydeaway Bay. These arrangements have preserved the privacy and seclusion of the resort.
Present managers Murray and Linda Cockburn took over the management of Montes Resort in September 1998.
